Travel Inspiration

Who are we following right now?

There are really only 3 travel blogs that I have been following for inspiration for our upcoming trip and future travels. Listed below is a brief description of each, why I like their blog, and the link to get to it. Feel free to share your favorite travel blogs with us or places you get inspiration to explore!

YTravel Blog

“We’re Caz and Craig Makepeace, a married couple from the Central Coast of Australia, but we like to call the world our home.

We’re serial travel addicts and have lived in 5 countries and had adventures through 52.

For us life is about accumulating memories, not just possessions and now we’re creating those precious memories with our two daughters.

If you’re looking for a place to fuel your desire for travel and learn how to do it too, you’re in the right place.”

This blog is my absolute favorite to read on a weekly basis. Caz and Craig have been all over the world and have a great perspective on how travel fits and shapes your lifestyle. They have overcome so many challenges along the way and give great travel advice for beginners to those wanting to turn their “hobby blog” into a money-making machine.  Plus, they are from “Down Unda” so a large number of their posts are about travelling through Australia and New Zealand.

A Dangerous Business

“My name is Amanda, and I like to travel.

Oh, you already figured that part out? Okay then. Here’s the brief history of my life:

I grew up on a Christmas tree farm in a small Ohio town with a good football team and even better marching band (go Raiders!). It was in high school that I decided that I wanted to travel. I was obsessed with the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and vowed that I would save my money so that I could go to New Zealand after I graduated. It was all over after that. I ended up going to New Zealand with my mom for two weeks in 2005, and I’ve been swatting at that pesky travel bug ever since.

Since that first big adventure abroad in 2005, I have been to more than 35 countries on 4 continents, and am always on the lookout for my next big adventure.

BUT, I’m not a full-time traveler or “digital nomad.” In fact, ever since I started this blog in 2010, I’ve either been working full-time, in school full-time, or working/freelancing from home. As much as I love traveling and having adventures, I also enjoy coming home to sleep in my own bed, drive my own car, and cuddle with my kitty.

When it comes to travel, there’s no “best” or “right” way to do it. You could fly 10,000 miles to have an adventure, or you could simply walk down the street and discover something new. Unlike some travel bloggers, I’ve never given up my “normal” life to travel long-term.

And guess what? You don’t have to, either. You don’t have to quit your job or leave your loved ones behind indefinitely in order to be a traveler. And hopefully this site and my stories will convince you of that.”

Ok, so it is kinda creepy how much I have in common with this girl (from Ohio, loves horses, slightly obsessed with Lord of the Rings). But I guess that’s why I was drawn to her blog in the first place. A blog named after a quote from Gandalf? Count me in.

“It’s a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and, if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling where you might be swept off to.”

— J.R.R. Tolkien

Amanda is a regular mid-west girl who love to explore the world and try new things. She writes amazing posts about area off the beaten path, advice on gear and packing lists, and travelling as a solo female. She is very candid and confident, which comes through in her writing (something I hope to achieve eventually). I have gleaned alot of info from her blog posts, not only about New Zealand but having the right gear depending on where you are going.

Gone with the wynns

“We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn, a couple of perpetual travelers, RV’ers (soon to be sailors) and modern day documentarians. This is the home of our discoveries and adventures all depicting the unscripted tale of how we traded in everyday life to satisfy our wear-out-your-shoes sense of adventure.

At 28 years old we made a decision to make a major change in our lives and were craving an adventure.  Sure, we enjoyed our artsy careers (Jason as a photographer and Nikki as a makeup artist) and upscale urban life in Dallas, TX but something was missing.  As outdoor enthusiasts we felt the need for more of a “back to nature” adventure.  Amongst discussions of cross country travel and living outdoors, came the idea of purchasing an eco-friendly and fuel-efficient RV.”

I recently stumbled across their blog while visiting the YTravel Blog page and saw it as a featured blog in a sidebar. They travel around the country in their eco-decked-out RV and are currently looking to transition into becoming full-time sailboat travelers. How cool is that?! The majority of their blogging is done through video, so it feels like you get to know Jason and Nikki as if they were right there talking to you. Another cool part of their travel is they are on the road with their 2 cats! I’m catching up on their older posts and learning alot about the challenges and benefits of travelling full-time in a RV.
